Tip of the Day: Easier Homemade Laundry Soap

If you are making your own laundry soap using a bar of fels-naptha, here's a tip that will make things a little easier.

Unwrap the bar of soap as soon as you buy it, and let it dry for as long as possible before you use it.

The soap is very soft when you first open it, and it can be difficult to grate because it's like a block of cream cheese and just keeps clumping back together. When you pour in the rest of your soap mixture it is likely to clump up and be chunky.

If you set your bar out to dry for a few weeks, it will dry out, and when you try to grate it, it will turn into more of a powder that is easier to mix.

The bar on the left has been drying for just a few days, and it's already much harder and easier to handle than the fresh bar on the right.
